The chess ecosystem of Salamanca, in collaboration with Salamanca por Cajal y la Ciencia, announces today the launch of the I Santiago Ramón y Cajal Online Chess Tournament (I Cajal NeuroChess Global Championship).
This unprecedented event invites chess players, scientists, students, and enthusiasts from around the world to connect their minds in the planetary online tournament that pays tribute to the father of neuroscience. Cajal, who defined chess as “intellectual gymnastics,” will be the spiritual host of a competition that seeks to demonstrate how strategy on the board mirrors the synaptic connections of our brain.

A Virtual Venue for a Universal Legacy. Registration will open shortly; you can pre-register using this Google Form. Follow the latest updates through the official portal of the Nobel laureate’s legacy: www.santiagoramonycajal.org.
The tournament will be played on the innovative platform https://play.mainchess.com, a technological environment designed specifically for this event, which recreates the aesthetic of nineteenth-century scientific manuscripts and offers an immersive playing experience.
Call for Global Collaboration. To carry out this ambitious project, we need collaborators and sponsors who share our vision of uniting Science and Sport. If you represent an institution, university, or company and wish to join forces, please write to us at [email protected].
