Contribution to the Cajal Legacy: Science requires resources, strategy, and management. Dr. Enrique Lopez provides the indispensable economic vision to make the “Cajal miracle” sustainable over time. As a Fellow of the RACEF (a sister institution to Cajal’s Academy of Sciences), he champions the Cajalian maxim that “the cart of Spanish culture is missing the wheel of science” (“al carro de la cultura espanola le falta la rueda de la ciencia”), applying advanced mathematical models (Fuzzy Logic) to manage uncertainty and to valorize research talent as a country’s greatest asset.

Lecture Topics:

  • The Economics of Talent: Managing science in times of uncertainty.

  • Cajal and Enterprise: Lessons in entrepreneurship and leadership from the Neurohistological School.

  • Science and Society: The economic returns of basic research.

Enrique Lopez Gonzalez holds a Doctorate in Economic Sciences and is a Full Professor of Financial Economics and Accounting at the University of Leon, where he leads research groups on information management and decision-making.

He is a Full Fellow of the Royal Academy of Economic and Financial Sciences (RACEF), part of the Institute of Spain, from which he promotes interdisciplinarity between the experimental and social sciences. His research is pioneering in the application of Fuzzy Logic to economics, a mathematical tool designed to handle uncertainty and complexity, concepts closely related to systems biology.

A prolific author and international lecturer, he champions a humanistic vision of economics in which scientific knowledge is the engine of social well-being, aligned with the regenerationist thought of Santiago Ramon y Cajal.
