Neuroscience advances in the laboratory, but also in congress corridors, in informal conversations, in unexpected encounters between those just starting out and those who have spent decades blazing trails. That conviction lies at the heart of Speed Neurodating, a scientific networking initiative that on 9 July 2026 at 18:45 will take place within the FENS Forum 2026, Europe’s largest neuroscience congress, this year held in Barcelona.
A Proven Tradition of Bridging Generations
Speed Neurodating is not new: its formula has proven its value at previous editions, including FENS 2022 and the IBRO-SENC congress in Granada. The format is simple and powerful — direct, brief, informal conversations between students and early-career researchers and established figures in the field. No protocols, no hierarchies: just science, career paths and shared vocations.
The event is led by Cristina Nombela Otero, coordinator of RISCEMB Node 1, alongside the dedicated Speed Neurodating team.
Call for Senior Mentors
The organisation is currently recruiting mentors. The call is clear: senior researchers attending FENS Forum 2026 who are willing to dedicate approximately one hour of their time to guiding the next generation of neuroscientists.
Participating as a mentor not only contributes to the scientific ecosystem. It also offers a fresh perspective on the concerns, ambitions and challenges facing those building the neuroscience of tomorrow, in a relaxed and dynamic setting rarely found in conventional congress formats.
How the Matching System Works
To maximise connection efficiency, the event uses a dynamic matching system with three key elements: rotation algorithms managing 5–7 minute turns, integrated visual and acoustic signalling for seamless transitions, and pre-event profiling by area of interest — molecular neurobiology, AI applied to neuroscience, clinical research — ensuring strong affinity between mentor and mentee from the very first moment.
Spread the Word
The organisation invites the entire neuroscientific community, and especially institutions connected to the legacy of Cajal, to share this call among colleagues attending FENS Forum 2026.
